And then I learned about the history of Europe — that as Christianity moved north, midwives, nurses, and so-called “witches” were sought after in a campaign of genocide — about four million women were killed by European leaders. So the reason that European men could do this to our people is because they had already cut the umbilical cord to their homeland.
I began to see the reasons for the feminist movement as a healing for white women. As Indigenous people we never experienced our men doing to us what European men had done to European women. I have never identified myself as a feminist even though we are all strong for the rights of our people.
Something to consider when people start saying that brutalization of women is mostly perpetrated by men of colour.

I hate how people here think that “proper general English” is the only way to speak English and all the others are considered “idiocy” like if language has anything to do with intelligence. I’m not even from the U.S. and I know this better than most of you.
Below is a list of all English dialects in North America:
American English - Standard American English is the general form

The first immigrants to Europe arrived thousands of years ago from central Asia. Most pre-contact Europeans lived together in small villages. Because the continent was very crowded, their lives were ruled by strict hierarchies within the family and outside it to control resources. Europe was highly multi-ethnic, and most tribes were ruled by hereditary leaders who commanded the majority “commoners.” These groups were engaged in near constant warfare.
Pre-contact Europeans wore clothing made of natural materials such as animal skin and plant and animal-based textiles. Women wore long dresses and covered their hair, and men wore tunics and leggings. Both men and women liked to wear jewelry made from precious stones and metals as a sign of status. Before contact, Europeans had very poor diets. Most people were farmers and grew wheat and vegetables and raised cows and sheep to eat. They rarely washed themselves, and had many diseases because they often let their animals live with them. Religion infused every part of Europeans’ lives.
Europeans believed in one supreme deity, a father figure, who they believed was made of three parts, and they particularly worshiped the deity’s son. They claimed that their god had given humans domination over the earth. They built elaborate temples to him and performed ceremonies in which they ate crackers and drank wine and believed it was the body and blood of their god, who would provide them with entrance into a wondrous afterlife called heaven when they died. Many wars were fought over disagreements about the details of this religion, each group believing their interpretation was the right one that should be spread across the land.
Now imagine that is part of a textbook that has entire chapters on the Mississippian polities of the 1200s and a detailed account of the diplomatic situation of the southeastern provinces in the 1400s and 1500s, an enormous section that goes through the history of the rise of the Triple Alliance in Mexico and goes through the rule of each tlatoani and their policies, the heritage of Teotihuacan and its legacy in later Mesoamerican politics, elaborate descriptions of the trade routes that connected and drove various nations in North America. Long explanations of the rise of various religious movements such as the calumet ceremony and Midewiwin, and how they affected political agendas and artistic trends. Pages and pages and pages going through the past thousand years of American history century by century.
And these three paragraphs are the only mention of European history before the year 1500.

When boys of the Shan tribe undergo the ritual “Poi Sang Long”, the focal point lies in, what in the Western world would be described as, “feminine values”. They are dressed up in bright colours and adorned with make-up. The aim is to mimic the young Prince Siddhartha before he became Lord Buddha. Even though the purpose of the ritual is to show that the boys are on their way to become mature and responsible men, it is loaded with aesthetic values and free from any physical trials. This is what sets it apart from other typical male rituals. By Ken Bamberg

D.I.Y & LOCALLY MADE FOOD: What the hipsters din’t tell you
I got this patches from 1384 screenprinting at the last anarchist book fair in Los Angeles right after a horrible white fucking person yelled at a beautiful brown mama for selling chicken at the gathering. The horrible person, skin waste and excess population was so fucking violent towards the brown lady that her gorgeous chubby lil brown kid felt embarrassed and was telling her mama they should go home. This pisses me off A LOT, pero for reals whats up with the amnesia? Who the fuck are the people that create the most waste and use up the most resources in the world? Who da fuck is related to the people that own Monsanto and all that horrible shit? Who da FUCK are the people that colonized, rape and took over land and COLONIZE indigenous foods?GUESS! So yeah amnesia pisses me off.
Como si fueramos nosotrxs who made up the horrible meat industry, como se fueramos nosotrxs who own those fuking meat businesses. como si nosotrxs no supieramos lo que es comer real food. Fuk that shit! Our muxeres are the reason why this world still revolves, they are the ones that use plastic containers for pots, to pack lunch, to store their money, to keep their legumes….they are the ones that cross seeds from one country to another, LAS SEMILLAS NO TIENEN BARRERAS EUROPEAS. Our muxeres are the ones that make sure that the food is eaten to its last bite. Our muxeres are the ones that plant flowers and make homes and entire neighborhoods beautiful full with plants that attract colibris and birds and all that magical shit.
The lady selling the pupusas, tamales, tacos in the corner WITHOUT fucking permits, maybe without fucking papers are THE REAL FUCKING REVOLUTIONARIES, FUCKING RADICAL ASS BEEZHIES.
We are hella DIY, some of our people don’t even need dishes cause they wrap their food with leaves. Some of our people don’t even need to buy dipers cause they use those 100% cotton panales to re-use and re-use. Some of our mamas used reusable fucking pads before being an eco-feminist was “in”. Some of our people had almost ZERO negative effects on mother earth cause they lived up in las montanas y en el rancho. Some of our people eat meat in minimal quantities, and guess WHAT some of our people still kill their own food. Some of our people have never had cars pero have hella tight nice walking/running legs. GUESS WHAT ELSE! The colonial food system, that McShit, Wendy BS, Burger Caca ALL that white trash food that is killing our people and creating an epidemia of diabetes WAS NOT CREATED BY OUR PEOPLE. My people drink fucking REAL fruit juice with honey, bitch.
So yeah let’s eat local! Let’s pick fruits from the trees in our neighborhood, let’s support our local corner muxeres huslting, let’s TIP our muxeres. Let’s honor the REAL DIY queenz that make trash into magical useful things. Let’s honor our muxeres that use the little money they make in this patriarchal racist system to fill their children tummies with ancestral beans, corn, potatoes and all that beautiful foods that are truly BROWN and from this continent.
DECOLONIZE VEGAN, DECOLONIZE LOCALLY MADE FOODS, DECOLONIZE D.I.Y, DECOLONIZE EVERYTHING!

“To be a POC you have to have some melanin”
This type of thinking is harmful. It alienates for example mixed people of color, it can invalidate what they choose to identify as and even trivialize their struggles.
“Uh,” you can be white AND latin@ at the same time. Mexican heritage does NOT preclude white privilege.
If you can pass for white and are alive today, newsflash: you have white privilege. Which doesn’t necessarily entail being Scandi/Anglo, no shit.
Race=/=ethnicity=/=culture=/=nationality, how many fucking times do POC (you know, those of us who can never ever pass for white) have to spoonfeed it
Also, colorism and shadeism: look em up cos they’re REAL.
#the more you know
tyler posey’s skin is naturally brown so somewhere in his ancestry someone was from one of the native tribes of mexico so guess what he’s a poc! funny how that works huh? also another think i’ve never thought as tyler posey as someone who can pass as white since he looks like so many of the people in my community who are non-white latin@
also passing people don’t have white privilege they have passing privilege they’re not white they’re sill poc even if they pass as white and trying to boot them out of the community is gross as fuck you don’t get to erase the identities of light skinned and white passing poc because you feel like it
No one ever denied whathisface’s LATINO heritage you ignorant, privilege-denying, anti-black spawn.
YOU are the one propagating white supremacist infighting in the community” (lol when the fuck did ALL POC become a ‘community’) by because you don’t “feel like” educating your own sorry ass on white privilege, shadeism, and moreover anti-blackness.
A black person pointed out that a dude’s white, and you see it as an opportunity to pitch a tantrum bereft of remedial knowledge of racial construction, meanwhile stigmatizing POC as emotionally fickle (yea we just point out the aforementioned prejudices bc we fucking “feel like it”)
And because it’d be utterly futile to further point out to your basic spawned carcass that whiteness doesn’t cancel out indigeneity (what bitch, you never heard of the Sami?), you are DISMISSED.

Only a white person would make homemade artisanal SPAM
The End of SPAM Shame: On Class, Colonialism, and Canned Meat (Sylvie Kim, Hyphen)
In 2010’s Asian American/Asian Research Institute (AAARI) Summer Series, Robert Ji-song Ku, Visiting Professor in the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at SUNY Binghamton and self-professed lover of Spam, spoke of the meat and other foodstuffs in the context of his manuscript Dubious Gastronomy: The Cultural Politics of Eating Asian in the USA.
“Due to their long entangled history with the US military, these two places [South Korea and Hawaii] along with Guam lead the world in per capita consumption of the pink gelatinous pork. Immediately following World War II, the American GIs stationed in Asia and the Pacific curried favor with the impoverished natives by handing out such luxuries as chocolate, cigarettes and Spam which as part of the US Army’s monotonous C-Ration was an object of scorn and mockery by most of the rank and file. Here in the US, Spam is widely regarded as vulgar, farcical and an affront to the very idea of real or whole food. To millions of devotees in and across the Pacific Ocean however, Spam is not only an essential part of the local indigenous cuisine, but a luxury commodity as well.”
I didn’t know it then, and perhaps it would have been futile to try to explain it to my peers, but my Spam consumption was largely the result of American military and political expansion abroad. I grew to love a food that was championed as a symbol of American ingenuity despite being denigrated by Americans themselves. I eat Spam and am judged for eating Spam because of America. Both Asian Pacific Americans and Spam were the butt of a cruel joke: Please value what we deem subpar and make us money in the process. It’s a terribly heavy load of symbolism to place on a pink block of meat.
SPAM is a perfect example of food that white people created, doled out to POC, looked down upon us for embracing, and now, apparently, are reclaiming as “hipster fare.” It’s all come full circle.
Yes, exactly this — Trinidad and Tobago was a stop for the US Military as well. My dad says when he was a kid, him and his friends used to go where the US soldiers were stationed and hope that the soldiers would throw down gum and sandwiches and things for them.
The soldiers also brought with them tinned luncheon meat like Spam, vienna sausages, and corned beef. And long after they left the islands, we kept on eating those things, and let me tell you something: the way we cook them is fucking tasty. Spam in Hawai’ian plate lunches or musubi is delicious. Spam and fried egg sandwiches from Hong Kong Chinese places are amazing. Curried corned beef and tomatoes on rice is unbelievably good.
Eating the food of the Other “ironically” in that fevered hipster fetishistic way is not cute or kooky (see: ramen). Seeking out the cheaper meats that chromatic people have been cooking up in gorgeously mouthwatering ways for years and then in essence gentrifying the market (chicken wings and oxtail used to be SO CHEAP when white people didn’t want them, y’all) is not authentic or earthy or whatever.
Seriously, I have never seen such simultaneous contempt for and fetishization of foodstuffs as I see in North American culture. It’s like an exercise in exhaustion navigating it all sometimes.

White cultures that practiced tattooing before “white imperialism” even fucking happened:
- Germans
- Nords
- Picts
- Scandinavians
- Gaels
- Celts
Tattooing was introduced as an actual artform in the united states in the 1800’s and came over with immigrants (primarily coming with mob/mafia dominated societies).
Indigenous peoples of the Americas already practiced tattooing, well before that.
It was a GERMAN Immigrant that became the first “official” Professional tattooist in the United States.
It was an IRISH immigrant that patented the first electric tattooing machine and opened the first OFFICIAL tattoo parlour, Located in New York.
(Oh look, two people from cultures that practiced tattooing before “white imperialism” ever existed. How fucking shocking.)
The original Sailor Jerry tattoos were popular among “Sailors” who were actually usually common fishermen, who were getting their tattoos well before the wars even happened.
The Navymen came back from war with TRIBAL STYLE tattoos.
The Navymen did nothing more but expose common people to tattooing and help popularize it.
Norman Collins, AKA “Sailor Jerry”, WAS one of those “common fishermen”, and WAS a US Navyman who served in the wars. He melded the styles he experienced while overseas with ALREADY EXISTING tattoo imagery in the United States.
(Oh, and Don “Ed Hardy” is a fucking thief who attempted to fucking take the credit for “Sailor Jerry”s work when he created Sailor Jerry, Ltd. in 1999.)
Those tattoos combined with the ORIGINAL “Sailor Jerry” style tattoos, mixed with tattooing brought back from war, mixed with the Circus and Side Show use of tattoos (the Tattooed Lady, anyone?), mixed with tattoo imagery introduced in America FIRST by predominantly German and Irish immigrants ALL combined into what is now known as “American Traditional Tattoo Style”, which has recently been mixed with Fine Arts education and given birth to “Modern American Tattoo Style”.
Anyone have any fucking questions?
no questions; just corrections.
ed hardy was actually sailor jerry’s apprentice/protégé, however they all still appropriated tattooing from people of colour. the end.
Gee. I wonder how those immigrants from Europe in the 1800’s were introduced and brought those tattoo’s when they arrived in the U.S.?
Oh yeah. From being introduced to them as early as the fuckin 1560’s by bringing in people from the America’s and the islands of the Pacific and South East Asia as slaves, prisoners, and exploiting them, putting them as exhibitions and presents for fuckin Queen Elizabeth I and other white people, which the majority of those people died shortly after. All for the amusement of white people in Europe who took these people from their homes and displayed their bodies and treated them as a thing that wasn’t human.
Hun. That post biyuti was talking about had NOTHING to do with “American tattoo culture” and them bashing on it because that all existed from colonialism. They were talking about white people in general, not your precious U.S. tattoo culture that still was benefited from the exploits from people from the Americas, the Pacific, and South East Asia.
The first tattooing machine was taken from the idea’s of the traditional tapping methods white people saw being used from the people they exploited and studied.
And what you just said about the Navy men?
The Navymen came back from war with TRIBAL STYLE tattoos.
The Navymen did nothing more but expose common people to tattooing and help popularize it.
Ya. Red flag right here.
And like Titotito said here,
“Sailor Jerry isn’t that great. He pretty much copied from Japanese tattoo culture, especially the concept of full-bodied tattoos. His style was heavily influenced by tattoo artists Horihide, Pinky Yun, Horiyoshi II, and Horisada…and he was a fucking anti-Japanese racist who wanted to “beat them at their own game.”
So not only did you use and explain a guy who was racist in the first place but you go on saying those tattoo’s were popularized in the west from the same people who took these ideas in the first place.
So no, biyuti never once fuckin “bashed American tattoo culture”, they were saying exactly what they fuckin said, that yes certain groups from Europe may have had tattoo’s at one point in time, but the reintroduction of tattoo’s to the West was from the people they saw in the America’s, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia. It was because of bringing people who were tattooed such as an Inuit man and pregnant woman to London to show them to Queen Elizabeth I in 1577 in which all 3 fuckin died. It was bringing people like Jeoly, also known as Prince Giolo, the first person from the Pacific to be brought to Europe as a fuckin display for profit in exhibitions who was bought as a slave with his mother from Miangas Island near the Sarangani islands of the Philippines (which Miangas was originally a part of the Philippines before it became a part of Indonesia in 1928) and brought in Europe. In 1692 he was dubbed “The Painted Prince” who after a few appearaces in exhibitions for showcasing his tattoos he died of smallpox soon after. It was from fuckin making these people like a fuckin sideshow and specimen for fuckin white peoples fuckin entertainment that reintroduced tattooing to the West. And that was all before the fuckin 1800’s like you keep claiming and saying that “American tattoo culture” started out.
This isn’t about people saying tattoo’s were in just one culture or one part of the world alone, or denying that some groups from Europe had tattoos. What we are saying and what that whole post was about is that the reintroduction of tattooing was from people white people saw and met and brought to Europe as prisoners/slaves from the Pacific, America’s, and Southeast Asia as a fuckin circus act in which many of them died for the benefit of white people. That post had nothing to do with fuckin Irish, German, etc. immigrants coming here in the states and creating “American tattoo culture”, like that fuckin exists.
So sit the fuck back down and stop pretending you know shit and bringing in a topic of a discussion that had nothing to do with how tattooing started in the U.S., but how tattooing in the west was reintroduced to white people by the exploitation of the tattooed people they met from the America’s, the islands of the Pacific, and South East Asia.
The word tattoo came from the Tahitian word “ta-tu” or “tatau” whom Captain Cook butchered the word during his voyages into the Polynesian islands with the British navy. Sheesh people the evidence of cultural appropriation is right there in the name…
Tatau is a samoan word and white people have always been annoying, no matter the century.
