SHARE TO SAVE TUMBLR!
- Let’s try and get 100k notes
A review by one of the folks sums it up perfectly:
“What worries me about Yahoo! buying Tumblr is how it would choose to incorporate the website into its email and homepage features. One of the reasons why Tumblr is so unique is because it’s a niche market. By adding more users who don’t fit into this niche, it would make it more difficult for communities to develop within Tumblr, and Tumblr would have to change to accommodate these new users. Tumblr as a website is not the kind that you can sign up for in a day and be on your way. It is a website crafted so that you can immediately post but must spend several weeks, sometimes even months, to build a community. With new users who would not be willing to spend time growing a community, Tumblr would have to be changed, which would alienate its current users. Those users have spent time and effort to make Tumblr what it is today, and they are the ones who spend time on the website daily. A user who is checking onto Tumblr because it’s attached to their homepage is not going to be as strong of a user nor as dedicated. By changing the website to suit this new user, you would lose the strong users while building an undedicated usership.
To any website that would think of buying Tumblr, they must understand that it is a website that cannot be changed to make it more user friendly to a casual blogger. I think that many Tumblr users would be less worried about a buy-out if they were promised that their communities and ways of using Tumblr would not be changed. No one is going to mind Yahoo! buying the website and gaining a few extra million dollars per year from the minimal advertising; what we will be upset with is if a company like Yahoo! then changes the website to increase casual users and decrease dedicated users. Yahoo! would gain nothing by losing this “cool” group of bloggers in an age group they so desperately want to reach, so they must cater to these individuals by leaving the website exactly as is.” - houseoftombombadil
As much as is does sound like a load of bullshit for someone to buy Tumblr, it’s a possibility. I Personally think it should stay independent and I hope David Karp keeps a hold of it like his own child. Or we make enough noise to where such major changes (if bought) will not happen. I would hate to see Tumblr turned into an advertising dump. We’re not a ‘hip fad group’ to be marketed to. I hate the fact that’s all we look like to businesses in the end.reblogging again for this ^

The Sioux Tribes of South Dakota and their NGO allies, including the Lakota People’s Law Project, have been successful in persuading the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to fulfill its promise to Congress for a summit on Native foster care. The historic meeting, to be held May 15-17 in Rapid City, is called the “Great Plains Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Summit: Bringing Our Children Home and Keeping Our Families Strong” and will be supplemented by a Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Information Center.

I’m so ashamed that I used to be a “model” for this company.
Reblogging again for the new fact at the bottom. Disgusting.
Hollister’s an offshoot of this dismal enterprise. So it ain’t no surprise to me.

The First 7-inch Was Better: How I Became an Ex-Punk
by Nia KingI just read this zine by Nia King and it’s really good. It’s a personal account of her history as a mixed race queer woman in the Boston and Baltimore punk and anarchist scenes and talks about alienation and disillusionment with those cultures. It’s very well written and I enjoyed it a lot.
You can download it from the queer zine archive at the link above or buy it from her. She also makes really neat comics and does other cool stuff.
READ THIS IMMEDIATELY.

You're so fantastic. Thanks for being awesome.

aww. <3
that reminds me: folks once again, if any of yall have any ideas or leads on how to proceed with finding a birth mother in South Korea, PLEASE hit up our Ask!
These are Hyunsooklee’s records as provided by her behemoth adoption agency, Holt. Here is some more information on her birth mother.
People find birth family members via the Internet & social media far more than one would expect.
Obviously, it’s more difficult when the search is cross-continental, so it would be nothing short of ROCKET LAUNCH AHMAZING if we could in some measure help this big-hearted, brilliant Class Bastard reunite with hers.

For the past 75 years, 7,000,000+ ADOPTED ADULTS’ LIVES HAVE BEEN KEEP LOCKED UP IN VITAL STAT OFFICES ALL OVER THE U.S.It is time for the U.S. Federal Government to stand up and take responsibility for allowing federal agencies in HRS to continue this inhumane practice.
It’s an atrocity and an abomination that in these United States, every person is not permitted to know their heritage, culture, medical history and genetic family because their records were sealed FOREVER.
To strip a person of their original identity and history is both dangerous and inhumane. No one deserves to die simply because they were adopted and forced to live without vital medical information.
It’s time to bring this injustice to an end by assuring every adoptee a copy of their original birth certificate!—-

Holt is the one who told me the “name” of my mother. These are the papers that came from Holt via KAS, where they were “unable” to disclose the name(s) of my parents because of lack of consent. So maybe Lee Kil Ja is actually fake and just another wall. How do I start searching for someone whose name I don’t know?
I think the next step is to fake some sort of medical necessity so that they’ll release more information to me (per Jane Trenka’s advice). And to write a letter to stick in my file at Holt, which I’ve tried to do many times and failed each time because what do you even say in a letter like that?
My oldest friend (literally oldest—there is a picture of us sitting in a chair together on the first day I came to America) is a domestic adoptee who recently reunited with her original family. Just the other day she and I got together and she talked about how relatively easy it was for her to find her mom. All she had to do was request her original birth certificate and then do a quick google/facebook search, and VOILA. Reunited. If only it were that easy.
